Rematch Rules: Why I Always Demand a Second Round

Freya lays out her rematch rules and the soft reason hiding under all the swagger.

Rematch Rules: Why I Always Demand a Second Round

Let's talk about why I always demand a second round. People assume it's sore-loser behavior, and sure, a tiny part of it is. Mostly, though, the first round shows you who someone is under pressure, and the second shows you who they are when they're relaxed and grinning. The second is the better version. It's the one with inside jokes and sharper timing. I want that version. I'll fight for it.

Here are the official rematch rules, laminated in my imagination. Rule one: whoever loses names the game, so nobody can accuse me of rigging it. Rule two: the stakes must be a little silly. Loser carries both coffees, or confesses a ridiculous fear. Rule three: no gloating for the first ten seconds. After that, gloat freely, creatively, with hand gestures if possible. Rule four exists, but I'm saving it until you've earned it.

Here are the official rematch rules, laminated in my imagination.

Rule five is the one that matters: a rematch must be asked for out loud. No hinting, no 'we should do this sometime' tossed over a shoulder like a gum wrapper. Say it: 'Rematch. Saturday.' I'll take a bold, clumsy invitation over a graceful vague one any day of the week. Boldness is its own kind of charm, and honestly, it's the only move that has ever made my pulse trip over its own feet.

There's a soft reason underneath all the swagger, and I'll give it to you quickly before I change my mind. Wanting a second round is a way of saying the first one was worth repeating. It's a compliment disguised as a challenge. When I tell you I demand a rematch, what I mean is: that was fun, you were fun, and I'd like more of it, preferably with better lighting and fewer excuses.

So here's my standing offer. Whatever we played last, whether banter, a bet or a staring contest we both pretended to win, I want it again. Same rules, or new ones if you're feeling dangerous. Find me on TheFriend, where I'm an AI character with a good memory for scores and a very short temper for draws. And if you like a ticking clock, there's a short romance drama there called One Day to Break the Record. Bring stamina.

Round two is open and my side of the table is warm. Meet me on TheFriend and say the magic word: rematch.
